Vbird: The bird that can’t fly….

Last week I participated in the Mediamatic RFID hackerscamp, just preceding Picnic. I was part of the team that build Vbird. The Vbird is a bird, but it can’t fly. It does, however, like to fly, or more accurate: be thrown around. It contains a video camera with transmitter, an accellerometer, and a RFID reader with bluetooth connection. We also build a nest, with TV’s to see what the bird was seeing, and to capture and upload it’s data.

It didn’t live very long (throwable hardware isn’t always the best idea…), but it was hudge fun when it did work. Erik made a compilation of some of the movies, which can be seen on his website

All in all, it was a fun project to work on, which only should have lasted longer
